Lexus has achieved record sales in August following a lift by almost one-third compared with the same month last year, contributing to record year-to-date volume.

A sales result in August for Lexus of 817 vehicles placed it 32 per cent ahead of August 2018.

So far this year Lexus has sold a record 6373 vehicles - an increase of 5.2 per cent compared with the first eight months of last year.

Lexus SUVs delivered the strongest growth, claiming an SUV record for August with 674 sales representing a 58.6 per cent increase on the same month last year, while a record 4993 sales year-to-date was 16.3 per cent above the same period in 2018.

The Lexus NX medium SUV led the charge with a record for August of 368 sales, a comfortable 59 sales higher than the previous record for August set in 2016.

Lexus' top-selling model was supported by safety technology upgrades rolled out as standard across the NX Line in June, and the first special-edition Lexus NX Crafted announced in July.

A strong performance by the Lexus UX compact SUV helped it place as Lexus' second top-selling model with an August total of 145 sales.

The Lexus LX also tallied 31 sales for August, its best result since the same month in 2016 when the flagship luxury SUV recorded 37 sales.

Strong interest in Lexus SUVs also bodes well for the introduction of the substantially updated new RX Line in October, with stock of the outgoing model limited.

Lexus chief executive Scott Thompson said the latest record results delivered a strong platform for further growth as new models and special editions arrive.

"Strong interest from customers in Lexus is facilitating high growth, and the arrival of the new RX and ES F Sport will continue to place the luxury lifestyle brand on target for a record year," Mr Thompson said.
