Lexus Melbourne Cup Continues World Tour
The Lexus Melbourne Cup has arrived in Australia, ready to visit every state and territory capital city, as well as some iconic racing locations, before heading to Flemington on the first Tuesday in November.
As part of the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour, the $200,000 gold trophy has already visited the U.K. and Ireland to mark the 25th anniversary of the first foreign-trained horse to win the Melbourne Cup, Irish galloper Vintage Crop in 1993.
To celebrate the historic victory, the Lexus Melbourne Cup took pride of place at the Irish stables of Vintage Crop's famed trainer Dermot Weld, who was joined by winning jockey Michael Kinane.
Since their ground-breaking victory, Flemington has seen an influx of overseas challengers vying for the honour of taking one of racing's coveted crowns.
In Australia, the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour began in Melbourne on August 1 - particularly appropriate as it’s the official birthday for thoroughbred horses.
The day was marked by a special event at Living Legends in Greenvale, Victoria, featuring Melbourne Cup winners Might and Power, Rogan Josh, Brew, Efficient and Prince of Penzance.
Lexus ambassador Emma Freedman and Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour ambassador Joe Agresta joined the celebrations, which included horse-friendly treats being offered to the champions of the turf.
The local tour will focus on creating unforgettable new experiences, with one highlight being a trip across the Nullarbor by train.
Lexus Australia has reinforced its position as a luxury lifestyle brand by sponsoring the Melbourne Cup for the next five years.
As principal partner, the five-year sponsorship agreement includes naming rights to the Lexus Melbourne Cup Race, Melbourne Cup Day, Melbourne Cup Parade and Melbourne Cup Barrier Draw - as well as the Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour.
Chief executive Scott Thompson said Lexus Australia was immensely proud to partner with an event that means so much to so many Australians.
"Lexus is passionate about delivering amazing experiences and the 2018 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour will bring the amazing experience of the People's Cup to more Australians than ever before," Mr Thompson said.
"Through sharing the history and passion of the Lexus Melbourne Cup, we have a unique opportunity to celebrate the stories of the iconic trophy and its contribution to Australia's cultural and historical heritage," he said.
