What hardware is required for Lexus Multimedia Connect?

A factory installed Data Communication Module (DCM) is required.

What is a DCM and how do I know if my vehicle is compatible?

A Data Communication Module (DCM) is a factory installed hardware component that acts as an embedded smartphone receiving and sending information to and from the vehicle. Lexus Connected Services are dependent upon the DCM.

Lexus is launching Connected Services progressively across its model range.

How does the Lexus Connected app communicate with the vehicle?

The Lexus Connected app sends commands to the cloud server, which confirms the command and relays it the to the vehicle’s DCM. If the app does not connect to the server, the Guest will receive in-app message of the non-connection.

What happens if commands are sent simultaneously to the DCM?

When a communication conflict occurs, the DCM processes the highest priority command. The command priority is as follows:

  • Automatic Collision Notification / Stolen Vehicle Location
  • Remote Connect (e.g. Door Lock/Unlock, Remote Start & HVAC, etc.)
  • Navigation Communication
  • Vehicle Status Report and Alerts
My vehicle did not originally come with Lexus Multimedia Connect. Is it possible to have it installed?

No. The vehicle's Multimedia system is installed during manufacturing and cannot be retrofitted to vehicles.

What are some of the key benefits of the Connected Voice Control system?
The Connected Voice Control system uses cloud based Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide improved speech recognition and interpretation which allows the system to understand an even greater range of instructions said in even more varying ways. The Connected Voice Control system also enables you to obtain current information (such as weather) and latest information for navigation requests.

Some other updates are installed through the night hours and while your vehicle is turned off. If you turn on your vehicle while those updates are in progress, safety services and other functionality that use your vehicle’s connection may be temporarily disabled.
